Elkins Resort Shoot by Haute Pink Photography
When I started planning the Elkins shoot I wanted to do something you wouldn’t expect at a lodge venue. Pine cones and tree branches were too obvious and I happen to know from personal experience people don’t like you picking them from their trees! I decided the antithesis of the typical lodge wedding was blush tones, lots of sparkle, elegant details and big pink marshmallows. I pictured a scene from the movie Marie Antoinette when Kirsten Dunst (as the leading lady) cinched into a big fabulous dress and nibbling on scones and tarts (or whatever they ate then). I wanted to incorporate that type of over-the-top luxury with the organic elements of the property. There are actually many features at Elkins that lend itself to this style, sophisticated (and beautifully plated) meals, picturesque lake and mountain views and impeccable service.
The night before the shoot I slept a total of zero hours. All I could think about (and hear) was thunder and lightening. We had already moved the shoot once because of the weather and there was no turning back this time. Do you know how hard it is to keep a white dress clean during an outdoor shoot in the rain?! On top of all this I forgot to put on waterproof mascara….oh the humanity! The day went something like this….click click click run for cover….click click click run for cover….check my hair (sigh) and do it all over again. I don’t think I could have done it without a great photographer (who was more concerned with getting good shots) than avoiding mud puddles.
Note to self, suede is not waterproof.
I cannot imagine having done this shoot with anyone other than Alisha with Haute Pink Photography! Not only does Alisha have a fresh and clean photography style, but she will actually lay in wet sand to get the perfect shot, risk her life (and gear) on a half sunken dock and eat “cheese” from a Lunchable (am I the only one who likes those?) all with a smile on her face. This is the kind of photographer you want on your wedding day! If I still need to convince you further of that, take a gander at these pictures!
